Most of the time it will be directed on the label as to when it is the best time to take any particular multivitamin supplement. Nonetheless, there are also times when the labels simply say “6 capsules daily” or something along these lines. And this generally doesn’t really give you much of an idea as to when it’s the most beneficial to take the supplement.
Other times you might get a direction to take a serving with meals twice daily. However, why is that? And is it true? In this article I hope to cover everything you possibly need to know about when is the best time to take multivitamins.
Is Time Of The Essence? Well It Depends
The truth is that the time of a day you are taking your multivitamin can actually affect how beneficial that supplement is for you. Not by a lot, but enough for it to be preferably taken into account.
There are, however, also multivitamin supplements as to which time won’t be of any importance. This usually purely depends on the additives that the supplement has.
When Is The Best Time To Take Multivitamins then?
In case you didn’t know, there are water soluble vitamins and fat soluble vitamins. The water soluble vitamins can be easily absorbed by the body, no problem. On the other hand fat soluble vitamins first have to be dissolved into fat before they are accessible to the body.
Therefore, there are (as I already mentioned) two various instances as to when it’s the best to take multivitamins.
- If there is some kind of fat containing substance within the supplement, it doesn’t really matter when you take it. This is because the body will be able to absorb all nutrients in the supplement.
- If there is no kind of fat containing substance within the supplement, it’s best to take it with a meal that does provide some fat.
To find out which instance of the above relates to your multivitamin supplement, take a look at the ingredient list of your multivitamin supplement. Look for any additive that is an oil. However, avoid any supplements, which have hydrogenated oils as their ingredients as these types of oils are very harmful for your health.
In case in the additive list (often framed as “other ingredients” list) you can’t find an oil related substances, apply the second instance of the above. Meaning, consume your supplement together with a fat containing substance, food or whatever.
The best approach for these kinds of multivitamin supplements (as you’ve probably guessed it) is to take them with your meal. But make sure that your meal has some fat in it, for example, it’s been cooked or fried in an oil, there is a product of animal kingdom, you have added some oil to your salad or you’re having any other type of food that contains fat or that has been added fat to.
By the way, on the most part multivitamin supplements won’t have fat containing substances within them, so most probably you will have to apply the second instance of what I mentioned.
